TCDD said in a statement that Turkey and Iraq have agreed to launch a passenger train service in accordance with an agreement signed at the Turkish-Iraqi High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council on Oct. 15, 2009. Trains will travel between the Iraqi city of Mosul and the province of Gaziantep in southern Turkey.
The first train is expected to arrive in Gaziantep from Mosul on Feb. 16 while a return train will depart from Gaziantep on Feb. 18.
The Gaziantep-Mosul trip will take approximately 18 hours, including customs and passport control. The line Gaziantep-Mosul line will run weekly. The passenger train will depart from Mosul on Tuesdays and from Gaziantep on Thursdays. Tickets for the journey will cost 25 euro per person.
