Is it a mistake not to take Bahçeli seriously?

The leader of the National Movement Party (MHP), Devlet Bahçeli, issued a sort of threat against four media bosses last week, even naming his addressees.

And actually, threatening words issued by an important political leader -- whether the words target media bosses or even just regular citizens -- should be a significant event in any country. But in fact the Turkish media -- including the media organizations owned by these four media bosses -- paid almost no attention to Bahçeli’s words. I wonder why not. It seems to me that no one really took Bahçeli seriously. As it is, Bahçeli started becoming further removed from the profile of someone to be taken seriously when he began reacting last summer to the government’s disclosures that it would soon be starting up a Kurdish initiative. (Bahçeli, at that time, even went as far as to say at that point, “Then we will head to the mountains,” and then went on to accuse the prime minister of treason.)
