Top US commander in Iraq visiting Turkey

Gen. Raymond Odierno, commander of the multi-national force in Iraq was paying a visit to the Turkish capital, Ankara, on Wednesday as the official guest of Turkish Interior Minister Beşir Atalay.

Atalay and Odierno held a meeting which was participated also by Turkey's Baghdad ambassador, top military officers as well as Turkey's police and intelligence chiefs.

The meeting is expected to discuss efforts to clamp down on the terrorist PKK organization as well as a cooperation platform between Turkey, US and Iraq, which came to known as "the Trilateral Mechanism."

The US has been providing "actionable intelligence" to Turkey in Ankara's bid to finish PKK terrorists who stage attacks inside Turkey from their bases in Iraq's north.
