Mustafa Kadıköylü (26) says that his wife, Gemma, recently left the country suddenly, taking along with her the couple’s 8-month-old son, Ali Aslan. He says that after he got the word out about his plight, he was contacted by dozens of other Turkish men in similar situations.

“I was truly surprised to find out that there were others who had fallen victim as I had. But all of our hands are tied -- there’s nothing we can do,” Kadıköylü lamented. He says that he was contacted by Turkish men dealing with the same problem through a variety of online social outlets and emphasizes that they all feel that they are not supported by officials. In the upcoming days, a group of these men are planning a meeting in Marmaris to get the word out about their problem and work for the return of their children.

“Those who I’ve spoken to also complain that there’s no support out there for them. In the coming days, others in the same situation and I are going to meet in Marmaris and try to get our voices heard. In the first phase, we’ll be six people, but with the platform that we establish, we expect our numbers to grow swiftly,” Kadıköylü explained, adding that they have plans to create a Web site. “Maybe if we all band together, we’ll be able to make ourselves heard.”

Kadıköylü says he met Gemma Taylor (25) three years ago, while he was working as a waiter in Marmaris. The couple married in Adana in December 2008, and Kadıköylü alleges that his wife left for the UK with the excuse of needing to address some visa issues, taking their son with her and never returning.
