Biret, who has released over 80 recordings to date, is known the world over for her extensive repertoire. Praised for her recordings, which have sold over 2 million copies worldwide, Biret also recently became the subject of a documentary that is currently in production. A trailer from the documentary, titled “İdil Biret: Piyanodaki Mucize Parmaklar” (Magic Fingers on the Piano) and directed by Eytan İpeker, will also be screened during the İstanbul International Meeting of Cinema and History, scheduled for Dec. 11-17. Biret will be presented her award at the festival’s opening gala, where she will also perform a recital.

The weeklong cinematic gathering, organized annually by the Turkish Foundation of Cinema and Audiovisual Culture (TÜRSAK), is marking its 12th edition this year under the main theme “An İstanbul Gathering of European Cultures.” The festival will screen a selection of international award-winning titles that earned rave reviews at prestigious film festivals around the world in several different programs, including “New Discoveries,” “Human Rights,” “From Festivals of the World” and a special program focusing on Polish cinema.

Showings will be held at the Alkazar Theater and the French Culture Center’s movie theater on İstiklal Street. Tickets for all showings, including galas, are priced at TL 5. Admission to French Culture Center showings will be free of charge.
