Today is Rudolf Maister Day in Slovenia. Rudolf Maister-Vojanov (1874-1934) was a Slovene major in the Austro-Hungarian army during World War I. The major organized local Slovenian volunteers and took control of Lower Styria. This secured the area for the newly formed Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. He was promoted to general by the National Council for Styria.
