One dead after shootout in Esenyurt

One person died and one police officer was injured after an altercation between two people and police officers on Friday in İstanbul’s Esenyurt district.

The incident happened after two people started to run away from policemen after the officers asked to check their identity cards.

According to eyewitness reports, the suspects fired at the policemen while running away. One police officer was able to fire at the suspects despite having been wounded. One of the suspects was shot and died at the scene, while the other suspect escaped. After the incident İstanbul Chief of Police Hüseyin Çapkın arrived at the scene to survey the situation.
