The conference runs through Nov. 21 at the Cevahir Congress Center, organized by the Turkish Asian Center for Strategic Studies (TASAM), and is this year themed around “The Role of Civil Society and Think Tank Organizations in the Development of Turkish-African Relations.” TASAM President Süleyman Şensoy commented on the conference’s aims, saying that as part of its multi-sided foreign policy understanding, Turkey was “working on political and economic initiatives in various regions as part of its multidimensional concept.” He also noted that Turkish state institutions support a number of projects aimed at addressing the problems faced by many African nations and said this reverberated amongst African countries recognizing the sincerity and lack of political motivation in Turkey’s efforts. Şensoy said the conference would be instrumental in ensuring the increased efficacy of bilateral visits and collaborative work between Turkish and African NGOs. The conference will be opened by Sudanese Agriculture and Forestry Minister Abdul Halim Ismail Al-Mutafi, Turkish State Ministers Cevdet Yılmaz and Faruk Çelik, Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency (TİKA) head Musa Kulaklıkaya and Şensoy.
