A statement issued by the State Meteorology Bureau said heavy rains were expected on Wednesday in the southern Marmara region and the coastal strip of the Aegean region while showers were expected throughout the rest of the Marmara and Aegean regions as well as in the western Black Sea and western Mediterranean regions and in Ankara, Çankırı and Eskişehir later in the evening.Heavy rains are expected to continue for the rest of the week throughout the Aegean coastal provinces of İzmir, Aydın and Muğla. Rainfall is also expected in the Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean, Central Anatolian and western and central Black Sea regions.
With the arrival of the rain, temperatures are expected to fall by four to six degrees in the Marmara and Aegean regions today and on Friday. Strong winds of 40-45 kilometers per hour from the southeast known as lodos are expected are expected in İzmir, Aydın, Muğla, Denizli, Balıkesir, Bursa and Yalova as well as the western districts of Antalya (Kaş, Kale, Finike, Kumluca, Kemer and Elmalı); in the coastal Aegean provinces of İzmir, Aydın and Muğla, these winds will be accompanied by lightning and heavy downpours.
The statement warned local authorities and residents about the possible consequences of the inclement weather, which could include flash floods in metropolitan areas, property damage caused by flooding, traffic problems, lightning strikes, colds or other illnesses caused by the sharp falls in temperature and carbon monoxide poisoning from heaters inside homes.
On Monday, heavy rain that started early in the morning in İzmir caused some homes and businesses to flood. Streets were also inundated with water, and the rain caused traffic accidents. Some bridges in the city were closed to traffic. Homes and office buildings were also flooded in the Karşıyaka and Buca districts of İzmir province.
