Are we ridding
ouselves of the military?

For years and years now, we have been debating and following this idea: “Without finding a solution to Turkey’s military problem, no other basic problem can be solved.”

For what seems like forever now, Turkey has always been stuck on the issue of the military. In addition to various military interventions, we have also experienced numerous arguments over the real role of the military in society. And it is the question of this role that is actually much more important than you might think. Is this current business (of the “coup plot” document) one that will be easily “cleaned up,” or will we forever describe it as a turning point? Perhaps if we pursue it, the latter will be true. And if we don’t pursue it, we will find ourselves surrounded by more fire. Even if the democratic initiative were only going to deal with this matter, it would still make great progressive strides.
