The original version of the action plan, which aims to destroy the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government and the faith-based Gülen movement, was discovered last month and led to a nationwide outcry as it included plans to defame the government in the eyes of the public.

The protestors asked for the removal of Chief of General Staff Gen. İlker Başbuğ from office as he described the plot as “a piece of paper” when a photocopy of it was found in June.

Back then, Başbuğ also defended Col. Dursun Çiçek who had signed the document. Speaking on behalf of the coalition, which includes a wide range of nongovernmental organizations, artist Zeynep Tanbay said Başbuğ bears all the responsibility regarding the plot and hence should be removed from his post immediately. She said if those who are involved in the preparation of the document are not brought to justice, it was very likely that they would draw up a similar plot tomorrow.
