The 25th session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the OIC (COMCEC) is to take place at the Lütfi Kırdar Congress and Exhibition Center on Nov. 5-9. Heads of state and government are scheduled to arrive in İstanbul on Sunday as this session of COMCEC will end with a COMCEC economic summit, to be held in the form of an open-ended OIC executive committee meeting on Monday, with the participation of heads of state and government from member nations.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and Bahraini Crown Prince Sheikh Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa as well as Sudan’s controversial president, Omar Hassan al-Bashir, are guests expected to be hosted by President Abdullah Gül, the chair of the summit.

In March, the Sudanese president became the first sitting head of state to be indicted by the International Criminal Court at The Hague.

The opening ceremony for the 25th session of COMCEC will take place on Friday morning under the chairmanship of Gül.
