Sabah: “Horror on the bridge,” read the headline of the daily’s main story yesterday, reporting that a 6-month-old baby who slipped from his father’s arms while being taken to a hospital lost his life after he was swept away by floodwater. The incident took place in the town of Kocadere in Yalova on Sunday. The father, Şener Adalı, and his son Emre fell from a wooden bridge when the floodwater rose suddenly. The father survived but he was unable to save his son. Taraf: In its top story yesterday, the daily reported on the statements of Nechirvan Barzani, prime minister of the Iraqi regional Kurdish administration, who said it was very wrong for a group of outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) members who surrendered to Turkish security forces last month in a bid to support the government’s Kurdish initiative to turn their return into a spectacle. “The provocative attitude of the PKK members damaged the peace process and gave its opponents ammunition. By placing more importance on spectacle, the PKK made a historic mistake,” said Barzani. Akşam: The daily’s lead story yesterday reported on a survey conducted by the polling company ANAR about the government’s democratic initiative, which aims to solve Turkey’s long-standing Kurdish problem. “The initiative has not caused the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government to lose prestige. It has maintained the votes it received in the latest elections held on March 29, but the public’s belief in a solution is being weakened,” ANAR said.
