But whether you are in the middle of puberty or an adult, there is no reason why you have to simply accept pimples. If you understand exactly why it is you are being bothered by blemishes, you can at least take steps to either prevent them or treat them. We recommend that you take a look at some of the pointers on the “HowStuffWorks” Web site.

 1. Don't touch acne: By touching or squeezing your acne, you allow bacteria to spread and also increase the possibility of permanent scarring. Don't rest your chin in your hands and try to simply keep your hands away from your face. Also note that some facial sports equipment can do the same harm as constantly touching your face.

2. Use benzoyl peroxide: This helps get rid of dead skin cells and breaks up the oil that blocks pores, which in turn prevents the formation of acne. Many dermatologists believe that benzoyl peroxide is the most powerful product available in fighting facial blemishes.

3.Try products with sulphur or resorcinol: These are helpful in slowing down the production of oil.

4. You may get blemishes on your back and chest, too: Use the products you are trying in these areas too. You can use pimple medications anywhere on the body as long as you make sure they do not get in your eyes or mouth.

5. Try to wash your face gently: Remember that washing your face doesn't clean the oil blocked underneath, just the surface. So there is no need to scrub your face roughly as you just risk irritating it more.

6.When washing your face, use the appropriate cleansers: Wash your face once or twice a day with regular soap or soap that bears the label “for sensitive skin,” using your fingers to gently rub the soap over the skin.

7. Use exfoliants with care: Don't use tough brushes or sponges on your face or cleansers with hard granules in them. We recommend using special rubbing pads with benzoyl peroxide instead, especially when it comes to the more sensitive parts of your skin.

8. Stay away from oily products: Don't use products such as brilliantine, baby oils, lotions and other oil-based products.

9. Choose high-quality makeup products: Choose water-based makeup, since it does not block pores the way other makeup does.

10. Watch what you eat: Stay away from foods such as chocolate, oily foods, nuts and similar foods that can cause more acne. When you realize and see that certain foods worsen your acne, stay away from these foods.

11. Avoid getting facials: Don't get facials. Facials can actually damage sensitive skin rather than make it healthier.

12. Watch your iodine intake: Keep an eye on your iodine intake, whether through multivitamins or salt; many specialists believe it inflames acne.
