Singapore is getting election fever after the time for contenders to announce their candidacy ends.

Elections are being held for 47 of 83 seats in the parliament; the owners of 37 seats have already become definite.

In power since1988, the Peoples' Action Party (PAP) declared its victory pre-election as no opposition candidates have emerged this time, and stressed the race will not affect final results.

The number of parties and candidates were announced for the 6 May 2006 elections:

People's Action Party: 84 candidates, 37 of them are unrivalled

Workers' Party of Singapore: 20 Candidates

Singapore Democratic Alliance: 20 Candidates

Singapore Democratic Party: 7 Candidates
