Speaking on a television program named “Kamp Günlüğü” (Camp Journal) on Galatasaray TV, Lions captain Akman highlighted the significance of Rijkaard working in Turkey and noted that the Dutchman used to train the prominent Spanish soccer club Barcelona. “He won the championship in both the Primera Liga and the European Champions League. His career as a soccer player and coach is full of successes. His coming to Turkey and Galatasaray is important for the development of soccer in Turkey,” he noted.

Akman further said they were having a good time at camp in Holland. “I hope we reach a good level of fitness. This is one of the best camp locations we have ever been to so far. It has a very good field and atmosphere. New teammates have joined us. I guess more [new players] are coming, and we will have a big squad,” he added.

Noting that the last season did not go well for them, Akman said the team was plagued by injuries. “We were unable to reach our target of winning the championship in both the Turkcell Super League and the UEFA Cup. However, the problem was injuries in general,” he said. Upon a question about transfer offers hovering over several of his teammates, Akman said he would be happy for Arda Turan if he were transferred to a European club.

New Lions' transfer Sarp said he is becoming familiar with the team. “There is a very nice atmosphere here. I always heard that family ties in Galatasaray were strong. I can say that I got over the period of adjustment quickly. My friends never left me alone. It is great to meet friends I knew beforehand under the roof of such a big club,” Sarp said.
