Organized by the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and the Bursa Foundation for Culture, Art and Tourism (BKSTV), the 48th Bursa International Festival will run through July 4. The long-running festival, which has come to be identified with the city over the past 47 years, will feature a number of onstage collaborations and world-class acts.

A press conference to announce the details for this year's festival was held on Tuesday at the historical Hünkar Kiosk, which will start to be used as a restaurant together with three other historical sites in the city in 15 days. Speaking at the press conference, Bursa Mayor Recep Altepe said the city has been an important center of history and home to numerous civilizations and that it will continue to offer cultural and artistic activities. “This festival has [established] a 48-year-old tradition in this city. Unfortunately, the cultural and artistic aspect of Bursa has been overshadowed by the image of Bursa as an industrial city for many years. Our objective is to reunite people with the historical structures built during the Ottoman period and turn the city into a living museum,” he explained.

Also speaking at the press conference, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Culture and Arts consultant Ahmet Ö. Erdönmez said in creating the lineup for this year's festival they preferred “project concerts,” such as the opening concert, which will feature a joint performance by the Bursa Regional State Symphony Orchestra and the Golden Trombone Orchestra. These orchestras will present a program of award-winning movie soundtrack songs and famous folksongs. Another joint project will be an onstage collaboration between Dutch jazz ensemble the Rosenburg Trio and famous Turkish Roma singer Kibariye.

McKennitt, a world-famous composer and singer; Özhan and Sayın, one of the best male-female vocal duos in Turkish classical music; Tekbilek, a master of bağlama, ney, darbuka and zurna; pop singer Aşkın Nur Yengi; folk singer Kubat; legendary Turkish pop-rock trio MFÖ; pop singers Rafet El Roman and Funda Arar; and multi-instrumentalist and pop and jazz musician Fatih Erkoç will be among the artists who take to the stage as part of the festival.
