It’s best to get and stay fit before it’s too late

Liposuction is not an alternate form of weight loss; it should be resorted to if dieting and physical fitness fail.
Liposuction is not an alternate form of weight loss; it should be resorted to if dieting and physical fitness fail.
If women put on a couple of extra pounds after pregnancy and lose the weight without working out, over time their stomachs often begin to sag. Men who overeat and don't exercise can experience this problem too, and it doesn't just affect our physical appearance; it also creates back problems as the body's center of gravity shifts.

It is possible to keep our tummies tight with stomach exercises if we stick to them throughout our youth. If, however, we fail to keep our stomachs trim while we are young, we are stuck with having to resort to a method called abdominoplasty -- a procedure more commonly known as a "tummy tuck" that is essentially a "stomach lift" and which is needed when skin loses its elasticity and does not remain firm. This is why women who want to have a thin waistline need to be mindful of their weight early on in life and make sure they are engaged in some sort of physical exercise during and after pregnancies. Dr. Necmettin Kutlu, the chief clinician at the Okmeydanı Education and Research Hospital's Department of Cosmetic Surgery, says stomach flesh and muscle which sags for middle-aged women can only be fixed through a tummy tuck.

Kutlu notes that the back and stomach muscles wrap the stomach, acting like a girdle. Furthermore, when the stomach muscles lose their tone, the job of carrying the spine's weight is shifted to our backs, which in turn creates backaches. According to Kutlu, people who are being treated for a backache for extended periods of time can't reap the benefits of their treatment because they are not focusing on a weight-loss program. Meanwhile, the side effects of the drugs they use cause problems with the stomach and other organs. The muscles which support and keep the stomach area upright stretch up to 400 percent during pregnancy. And if a mother doesn't exercise following pregnancy, these muscles never recover. The tummy tuck allows for the stomach muscles that have been ruptured to be strengthened and repaired, returning the muscular strength the stomach once had. When the balance between back muscles and stomach muscles is regained, the abdominal area regains the "girdle" it had. Dr. Kutlu adds that a tummy tuck is more of a health procedure than an aesthetic one.

Kutlu reiterates that it is hard to find a solution to facial and abdominal skin that has begun to sag. "One must begin to take care of skin when still healthy. Once it has sagged and wrinkled, there isn't anything that one can do. No matter how much Botox is put in the face or how many injections and cosmetics are used, once our faces have wrinkled, there is no solution short of surgery."

Be mindful of liposuction

Liposuction, the process of removing fat from the body to gain a better figure, is a procedure that those looking to lose weight request; however, Kutlu highlights that this is never a weight-loss method. He says if a patient is unable to lose weight in certain parts of the body where there are fat deposits, despite dieting and physical fitness, he will then merely "shave down" the area. Liposuction should only be recommended to a person that is very overweight, he states.
