The İstanbul-based contemporary art platform PiST, of which Bozkurt is a co-founder, and which represents the artist at international art events, said in a written statement that Bozkurt’s “Tomurcuk” (Bud) was included in the Deutsche Bank Collection in November. Bozkurt, who was picked in October by The Independent newspaper among the 20 best up-and-coming artists worldwide, represents a new generation of contemporary photographers from Turkey, with exhibitions in major galleries including the “Global Cities” exhibition in 2007 at the Tate Modern and in the PiST pavilion at the Frieze Art Fair 2008, both in London. “Bozkurt is the man to watch” if Turkish art is the next big thing,” the Independent article said, quoting Alistair Hicks, art adviser for Deutsche Bank. “Bozkurt’s political photography captures the tensions and paradoxes of modern life in İstanbul,” said the article. The Deutsche Bank Collection, assembled since 1979, today consists of around 50,000 select works of art from the world over, with an emphasis on works by European artists.
