Arıtman should be expelled
To be direct and frank, what Canan Arıtman said about President Gül and about journalists who criticized her is not something that can be accepted by any decent democratic organization, let alone a social democratic political party.

However, the fact that these words were uttered by a social democratic party’s deputy is of even greater concern. [Milliyet Editor-in-Chief] Sedat Ergin laid out what needs to be done by a real social democratic mentality in the face of this situation; namely, he rightly demanded that Arıtman be expelled from the CHP. Social democracy does not question ethnic identity. Unfortunately, we don’t have such an understanding of social democracy. In Turkey, social democracy is formed around discussions about neo-nationalism. For now, let’s just put aside the question of what kind of harmony could emerge between neo-nationalism and social democracy because Arıtman’s approach is beyond that question and is related to an issue of ethnic origin in the real sense. Arıtman is racist. What place can racism and questioning ethnic origins have in social democracy, an ideology that has freedom, equality and brotherhood as its fundamental tenets?
