The new İstanbul Dolphinarium complex is a joint Russian-Turkish project that was built on 8,695 square meters of land and which includes a 5,800-square-meter enclosed area. İstanbul Mayor Kadir Topbaş, Russian Federation Duma International Relations Committee First Vice President Leonid Slutsky and Russian Federation İstanbul Consul General Alexander Krivenko all participated in the venue's opening.General admission is YTL 20 and YTL 15 for students, and four dolphins, four seals, two walruses and two whales perform in the shows at the center.
Both the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the Eyüp district administration contributed to the İstanbul Dolphinarium project, which was proposed by a team from the Moscow Dolphinarium. The complex is home to seven pools, including a 16.5-meter-radius show pool. The pools all have a volume of 3,500 cubic meters and are all connected to each other, with the exception of one quarantine pool. Shows will be held at the facility between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. every day except Monday, and the complex also includes a 120-car parking lot and an 800-person-capacity restaurant and café. The pools use water from the Golden Horn that is filtered through a system which meets international standards.
In addition to aquatic shows, the İstanbul Dolphinarium provides the opportunity for visitors to swim with the dolphins. "Swimming with dolphins is entirely safe. Dolphins respond positively to human emotion and actions, and visitors of all ages can make an appointment to swim with the dolphins. Swimming with dolphins is a calming method of eliminating the stress and pressure that your daily work tempo brings. Touching and hugging the dolphins is an experience that you shouldn't miss out on," a trainer at the park said.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, İstanbul Mayor Topbaş said: "There are many facilities in Europe like the dolphin show center that we're opening. Now, there's one in İstanbul, too."
