Rebuilding Babel: Turkish youths gather for communication

Durmaz said they are planning to develop new methods in language learning and to make it easier for Turkish youth to use different languages by bringing different cultures together.

"Within the framework of the ‘We are Rebuilding Babel' project, we will host a group of 20 people from Italy, Spain, Poland and Romania in Ankara, and we will organize various activities in this seven-day period," Durmaz said. Noting that they will also attempt to draw attention to global environmental problems, Durmaz said they will hold a workshop titled "Babel Silence" in order to emphasize the importance of language in communication. In this workshop, participants will be asked to cooperate to build their own Tower of Babel by using recycled materials without verbal communication.

The participants will also take part in street activities in various parts of Ankara. They will try to communicate with Turkish citizens who do not know English and teach them English words.

In the "My Course" section they will make presentations to other young people about how to teach their language. This section aims at developing methods and finding the easiest ways to teach language. They will then be able to express their opinions on establishing language courses and the best methods to use in these courses. In the end, the participants will shoot three-minute short films documenting what they have learned.
