Tüzmen has been in India for the past four days for official visits to boost Indian-Turkish trade ties. The Holi Festival is a celebration of the coming of spring. During the festival, people rush onto the streets with paints of every color in their hands and throw them at each other as a symbol the rebirth that occurs in the spring.
The celebration in which Tüzmen got painted up was organized by Sushil Jiwarajka, the chairman of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry's (FICCI) western region council in Mumbai.
After the painting phase, the minister showered with a garden hose to remove the paint. When the celebrations were over, the minister had a brief conversation with the press members. He pointed out that the festival had coincided with the Persian holiday of Nevruz, the Muslim celebration of Mevlut and the Christian Good Friday for the first time in history.
Also in Mumbai yesterday, Tüzmen spoke to a group of Indian businessmen to urge them to cooperate more with their Turkish counterparts. Almost all Indian businessmen in the conference hall stood up to applaud the minister when he said: "Turkey was the richest country in the world some 250 years ago and India was the wealthiest country 150 years ago. I don't have the patience to wait another century to see these bright pasts again. I want to see us be the richest again during my lifetime."
