Soldiers, under air cover from Cobra attack helicopters and support from Sikorsky troop carriers, scoured the rugged Küpeli and Gabar mountains in Şırnak province for terrorists.

The army also sent thousands of soldiers to reinforce troops in Şırnak and Hakkari provinces near the Iraqi border as part of the ongoing operations. Troops in the province of Tunceli in eastern Anatolia were also being reinforced. On Wednesday, the General Staff said its forces had killed 11 PKK terrorists this week in clashes in the Küpeli Mountains in Şırnak.

There were no reports of new cross-border raids after Turkish warplanes bombed PKK positions in northern Iraq on Wednesday. Turkey has massed up to 100,000 troops, backed by warplanes, artillery and tanks, near its border with Iraq.
