After a moment of silence at the beginning of the service, Hakko's business partner Alberto Elhadef gave a eulogy, noting that Vakko was born 73 years ago. "Today this baby, which became a fully grown man, is saying goodbye to his dad," he said. Elhadef said Hakko was one of the first entrepreneurs of modern Turkey along with his friends such as Vehbi Koç and Nejat Eczacıbaşı. "He was the first man to bring the ready-to-wear, modern shopping center and fashion show concepts to Turkey," he said. One of his colleagues, Deniz Adanalı, said Hakko had always retained the avid curiosity he developed as a child. "He learned a lot and he taught a lot," Adanalı said. After the speeches Hakko's coffin was taken to the Neve Shalom Synagogue. Hakko's relatives, İş Bank General Manager Ersin Özince, Koç Holding CEO Bülent Bulgurlu and Vakko workers attended the funeral. Hakko was born in İstanbul in 1913. He started a business at a very young age, establishing a small millinery called Şen Şapka (Merry Hat). As his business expanded, he changed the name to Vakko, and the company began to produce haute couture scarves made from Turkish silk, cotton and wool. When the first Vakko shop was opened in Beyoğlu in 1964, it was the biggest store to have been built there to date and made Vakko the biggest brand-name phenomenon on the Turkish clothing scene.
