Saltanov gave an exclusive interview to Cihan news agency on Saturday during the "Dialogue of Civilizations and the Future of the Middle East" seminar, which ran Nov. 9-10. He stressed that Russia condemns absolutely and unequivocally all acts of terrorism perpetuated by PKK terrorists against Turkey from bases within Iraq and added that the international community should cooperate in the fight against terrorism. Attending the meeting hosted by the Faculty of Asian and African Studies of St. Petersburg State University, Saltanov stated: "Russia regrets Turkey's suffering caused by terrorist acts. Russia has undergone serious tests of terrorism throughout its history, as well. International cooperation is critically important in the fight against terrorism."

Saltanov said that the struggle against terrorism should have a multidimensional nature, adding that the international community "needs to focus on military measures together with social, political and educational precautions." Stating that Russia is a multinational country, Saltanov said his country had assumed an active role in the dialogue between civilizations through several international seminars and conferences and added: "Today's seminar on the dialogue between civilizations and the future of the Middle East is being held with the participation of several nongovernmental organizations. We have discussed modernization in the broader Middle East and North Africa region in the context of dialogue between civilizations, the role of education in promoting the dialogue between cultures and religion as a factor of dialogue. In the upcoming years, Russia will undertake an active role in the preparation of a new peace process in the Middle East."
