Sibulele Mchani, Mava Tsotetsi, Tarıa Hendrieks and Nizam Vander Scheya are students at Star International Turkish High School in Cape Town, the Cihan News Agency reported. “People in Kırıkkale are so friendly,” said the students. “They make us feel right at home. People here are so open with us. They don’t discriminate against us because of our color. It’s as if we have been living together for several years,” the students said. They also have observed that merchants Kırıkkale are very hospitable, with some of the students even receiving gifts from them.

Mustafa Abidinoğlu, staff representative of Star International Turkish High School, explained that they have had the students begin their studies now to increase their chances of wining an award in the games next year. He said: “Students will develop their language skills by living and studying in Kırıkkale for two months. Next year they will have to read Turkish poems in the games. Now, they understand Turkish, but they have difficulty in speaking it. We want them to be able to overcome this during this intensive period of full immersion in the language. Our Turkish high school in Cape Town has been serving students for a long time with the support of merchants from Kırıkkale.” He noted that they also teach students about Turkish culture and traditions in addition to their regular curriculum.
