Turkish school in US takes first place in Connecticut Science Olympiads

Putnam Science Academy (PSA), a Turkish school in the US, took first place among Connecticut schools for the third time running this year, and will represent the state in the National Science Olympiads. Putnam has won, for the last three years, the Connecticut Science Olympiads in 20 branches. PSA will represent Connecticut in the National Science Olympiads to be held on May 18-20. PSA earned third place in the branch of entomology in last year’s National Science Olympiads.

Stating hard work, sometimes all night, lies behind their success, PSA Director Ercan Tozan said winning first place this year was no surprise as they had an exceptional year. Tozan emphasized the teachers taught the students with the utmost self-sacrifice and said “They even passed some weekends studying at the school and their efforts have paid off.”

Murat Karadeniz, coordinator of the Olympiad team, said a more difficult marathon awaits them from now on. Karadeniz said he has full confidence in his team and their sights are set squarely on first place in the nationals.
