What made Turkey so popular? It is an easy question. Except Deniz Baykal, the leader of Republican People’s Party (CHP), the rest of the world sees that Turkey is now knitting a strong network with its former friends. The former friends are luckily the new market of the world. Turkey has a very strong and correct position in light of its geopolitical horizon. The most popular topic in recent days was the geostrategic moves of the government in respect to natural gas resources.
Following the International Monetary Fund (IMF) meeting the network-knitting process of the government has now accelerated. The joint session of the Iraqi and Turkish council of ministers was a great move towards stabilization. The stabilization perspective should cover several items including the utilization of Iraq’s natural resources.
The number of mergers and acquisitions taking place in a country is known to be a reliable measure for determining the flow of business in that country.
Although I came to know about it at the very last minute I attended the Fall 2009 Global Mergers and Acquisitions Symposium organized by the International Network of M&A Partners (IMAP), which took place on Friday in İstanbul. Former Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar was the keynote speaker at this symposium where the main theme was the current status and the future of mergers and acquisitions in Turkey and the surrounding region. Among the participants in the symposium were senior executives of some of the largest investment funds in the region. As far as I know the event was the first symposium of its kind, attracting many parties in merger and acquisition projects.
The symposium focused on developments in global mergers and acquisitions within the framework of the current economic conditions. Almost all speakers had a common point, and that was “the importance of Turkey with its new hinterland.” IMAP President Mark Esbeck underlined that with IMAP members from 36 countries attending and over 100 participants, they were very happy to be holding the symposium, titled “Intercontinental Collaboration,” in a country like Turkey, where the potential and promises are immense. The president of IMAP also added that the world views Turkey and its surrounding countries as markets that hold great potential for development and progress.
Reading through the mergers and acquisitions bulletins from several different resources I see that the professionals in the field are of the opinion that the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government was successful in preparing and launching a good plan attracting foreign investment and international finance. Combining this good strategy with the current political and economic approach, I believe that incoming investments will increase significantly.
