Young men in the mountains

“He was about 25 years old. He was not happy that he went into the mountains [to join a terrorist organization] and spent his years there. He told me he wanted to return home and that this war should end.

What made that man go there is the fact that the Kurdish issue has not been solved for 100 years.” These words of deputy Hüseyin Aygün reignited the old debates about making terrorists return home. But there is not one single political party that deals with these issues responsibly. While we keep debating and politicians continue with their war of propaganda, young men going to the mountains or those guarding military outposts will keep dying. All political parties have some responsibility to end this, but the biggest share is that of the ruling party. The government has not taken the necessary steps to eliminate the social policies that make those young men go up into the mountains, even though it is its responsibility to give Kurds in this country their rights back and stop making this issue a bargaining tool.
