These are the questions regarding politics in the near future: Who will be the next leader of the Justice and Development party (ak Party), and how will the new leader work with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who will most probably be the next president, in harmony?
I don’t think President Abdullah Gül will be left out of the process that is being planned. It would be a sad loss for Turkish politics if he is retired. That is why the “Vladimir Putin-Dmitry Medvedev method” has been discussed recently, suggesting that Erdoğan and Gül might switch positions just like the two Russian politicians. But regardless of the content of the plans, it is a fact that a post-Erdoğan period for the AK Party will also be a difficult test for Turkey. Changes in leadership are always difficult, after all.
