MUSTAFA ÜNAL, ZAMAN
Turkey is no ordinary country. It is a regional power. Yet the image of a country that is not able to shed light on how its jet was downed [by Syria] contradicts its claim of “regional power.”
It’s no secret that other countries observe and analyze the region far better than Turkey. The first one is the US. Washington spokespersons have implied through the media that it knows something more. And it is not hard to guess that Russia has much information as well. And I believe it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Israel watches the region like Big Brother. But God knows why it prefers to be silent this time. The three “game-changer” countries are closely related to developments in the region. But what about the earlier claims of Turkey being a game-changer in its region? Yes, it is still true, but the downed jet incident has revealed that there are more powerful game-changers in this region, the most difficult region in the world.
