Two young girls named Rozigül and Gurgül in Urumqi -- a city in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China -- have told Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Turkish: “Kardeşiz. Çok seviyoruz. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.” (“We are [your] siblings. We love you very much.”)
These are the key three statements symbolizing the hope and love those people in Urumqi have towards Erdoğan. I was aware of the affection and respect towards Erdoğan in Arab and some European countries. But I did not know that they love Erdoğan this much in Urumqi until I saw the expression on the people’s faces. Starting his visit to China in Urumqi, Erdoğan showed the Chinese government how sensitive he is to the problems faced by Uyghurs. I feel like saying that he is seen as a peace envoy who can raise his voice wherever oppression is seen, regardless of what nation it is that is being subjected to oppression.
