Regarding the ongoing probe into the Feb. 28, 1997 post-modern coup, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said:
“The probe should deepen as much as the judiciary deems necessary. All those behind the coup should be exposed. The business world, civil society and university rectors were all involved in it. … The coup issue is not only limited to members of the military. All the other actors should be revealed.” Erdoğan’s comments show that he thinks the probe into Feb. 28 should go deeper and extend to other actors, in addition to those in the military. Among the things Erdoğan said, I find his remark, “We are against both military and civilian coups,” the most notable.
