Alevi workshops finally ended last year after long, fruitful discussions. Professor Necdet Subaşı prepared a report summing up the results of the workshops; however, no response to Alevis' demands from the government has yet been received.
At this point, it is also society's responsibility to push the government to take action. Another Alevi report announced last week is a product of efforts to keep Alevi demands on the agenda. Crucial demands include: “A new perspective should be adopted to boost the confidence of the Alevi community in the state” and “Alevi cemevis should be officially recognized as places of worship by the government.” I really hope the responsible authorities pay attention to these very basic, belated demands.
