After losing their first two matches, the “Sultans of the Net,” as Turkey’s women’s volleyball team is popularly known, are getting ready to achieve their first win in the 2012 Olympic Games in London with a win against Serbia on Wednesday.

The Sultans of the Net lost 3-1 to China in their second challenge at the Olympics on Monday and they also lost 3-1 to Brazil in their first game of the group. Team captain Esra Gümüş told media that the players could not play the game they wanted. “China really played well today and we could not put ourselves into the game at all.” Gümüş said the team is aware of the importance of the Serbia game and they will do their best to win it. Turkish defender Gizem Güreşen said Turkey recently scored wins against China, but this time the team did not play well and lost the second match of the Olympics. Güreşen added that the Serbia match will be a difficult one, but Turkey has no other option than to win. Other matches on Wednesday: Dominican Republic vs. Japan; Algeria vs. Russia; Britain vs. Italy; United States vs. China; and Brazil vs. South Korea.
