Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim is considering forgiving Brazilian midfielder Felipe Melo and Spanish winger Albert Riera, who had a fight last week during a training session, after the rest of his players requested that they be allowed to stay.
Both players were sidelined during last weekend’s game against Manisaspor for their boisterous behavior and foul language. After the argument during training, Melo locked the locker room and beat Riera, causing injuries to the Spaniard that required hospitalization. The İstanbul club is considering firing them. Coach Terim will have the final say regarding the fate of his players. During Monday’s training, the team went to Terim to ask forgiveness for Melo and Riera. “I wasn’t expecting that my players would come to speak up for their friends. It’s impossible for me not to be affected by this. I know they are both sorry,” Terim said on a Lig TV show on Monday and added that he still has not talked to Melo since the incident. “Melo is one of my important players. Despite that, some things can be sacrificed for the sake of principles and institutions.”
