Fenerbahçe’s future in Europe next season remains cloudy and Chairman Aziz Yıldırım is still at İstanbul’s Metris Prison pending further charges over alleged involvement in match fixing.
Yet for the Yellow Canaries, as Fenerbahçe is popularly known in football circles, it is business as usual on the transfer market as the buying spree continues despite all odds.
According to reliable media reports splashed across sports pages and the Internet on Tuesday, the Yellow Canaries have finalized a four-year deal with Kayserispor’s 22-year-old Turkey international left back Hasan Ali Kaldırım and a signing ceremony is expected to be held within the next few days.
The Fenerbahçe club has not made an official statement on this issue yet, but it is said that the Yellow Canaries have agreed to pay Kayserispor 4 million euros for the buyout clause of the Cologne-born Hasan Ali.
Furthermore, Fenerbahçe will pay Hasan Ali a fixed amount of 1.8 million euros per season plus a certain amount per match. And this deal, the reports said, means the Yellow Canaries will no longer require the services of Geneva-born Sweden winger Reto Pirmin Ziegler, who was on a one-year loan from Serie A side Juventus this past season.
And now with the Netherlands surprisingly ousted from the first round of Euro 2012, the Fenerbahçe rulers have announced that Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt, already acquired from Liverpool, will be coming to İstanbul on June 21 for a grand signing ceremony that will be held at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium in Kadıköy.
Fenerbahçe had signed a three-year contract worth 1 million euros with Kuyt early this month. For the record: The Netherlands forward joined Liverpool from Feyenoord in 2006 and scored 71 goals in 285 appearances.
Having lost Nigeria defender Joseph Yobo, the Canaries are now chasing Valencia’s Mehmet Topal -- who played four years (2006-10) for Fenerbahçe rival Galatasaray before joining La Liga’s Valencia. No deal has been reached yet, but negotiations are taking place.
The Canaries also on Tuesday extended the contract of young defender Bekir İrtegün for three seasons or -- more accurately -- until the end of 2014-15 season. According to the deal Bekir will receive 1.25 million euros in 2012-13, 1.3 million euros in 2013-14 and 1.45 million euros in 2014-15.
