Trazbzonspor, eliminated from the UEFA Europa League last week by PSV Eindhoven, jumped from the frying pan into the fire, as it was beaten 3-2 by struggling newcomer Mersin İdman Yurdu at its Hüseyin Avni Aker Stadium on Sunday.

And the interesting thing is that Trazbzonspor, or the Black Sea Storm, came from two goals down to draw 2-2 before being punished by Hasan Üçüncü, a player it rejected in 2009.

Brazilian-Turkish midfielder Mert Nobre scored a brace in the 33rd and 44th minutes to give Mersin a 2-0 lead. Trabzonspor midfielders Halil Altıntop (60th) and Olcan Adın (83rd) then scored to make the score 2-2, but Hasan’s last-gasp goal in the 89th virtually put the match beyond reach.

If the Storm cannot beat Mersin at home then its fans, rightfully so, are wondering how the Storm will fare against the wounded Black Eagles at Fiyapıı İnönü Stadium in week 29 this Saturday.

Ousted from Europe, implicated in the ongoing match-fixing saga and struggling in the domestic league, the Black Sea Storm faces tough days ahead.

Elsewhere, İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor ran riot as Arif Erdem’s men mercilessly walloped visiting Medical Park Antalyaspor 4-0 at Atatürk Olympic Stadium.

And there was no victor nor vanquished in the Genclerbirliği vs. Sivasspor match in the capital’s 19 Mayıs Stadium that ended 3-3.
