Judge releases convicted woman until baby recovers

Sultan Pehlivan was released from jail, even though she was sentenced to 29 years for bribery, drug trafficking and smuggling a banned substance into a prison. She had been detained after it was discovered that with the help of a prison guard, she had delivered drugs to her brother, who was serving time in a Kastamonu prison. Pehlivan's lawyer, Hakan Tunçkol, said during a recent hearing that his client had 20 days earlier given birth to a baby who was in an intensive care unit and required constant care by its mother. Pehlivan will return to prison after her baby has recovered.
