110,000 Syrians have fled to Jordan, visiting PM says in Ankara

Al-Khasawneh said that they were not sure yet whether or not to classify these Syrians as refugees because Jordan and Syria have visa-free travel. Speaking in an interview with the Anatolia news agency on Thursday, he explained that this is why a great number of Syrians have entered his country.

The Jordanian prime minister arrived in Ankara on Tuesday to attend a ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Turkey’s Constitutional Court. He had talks with President Abdullah Gül and Haşim Kılıç, president of the Constitutional Court.

In a statement released Tuesday the Jordanian Prime Ministry said Jordan aims to study the Turkish model as Jordan develops its own constitution and raises human rights standards in his country.

Speaking to Anatolia, al-Khasawneh said that Syria was not the main item on his agenda as he came to Turkey to attend the Constitutional Court anniversary celebrations, but added that the issue would probably come up in talks with Gül and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
