Ergenekon suspect Haberal hospitalized once again

Deputy for the Republican People's Party (CHP) from Zonguldak and former Başkent University Rector Mehmet Haberal, who was arrested in 2009 on charges of membership in a clandestine terrorist group known as Ergenekon and who is still in prison in an ongoing case, was again sent to Silivri State Hospital on Thursday due to health problems.

Haberal has been hospitalized many times during his time in jail.

Haberal's lawyer, Dilek Helvacı, told the Anatolia news agency that her client's health started declining on July 25, as he had high blood pressure, breathing problems and his arms were numb. An ambulance was called to the prison, but Haberal refused to go to the hospital.

Helvacı added that Haberal's condition got worse on July 26 and he was taken to Silivri State Hospital, where doctors told him that there was no need for him to be hospitalized.

Haberal's lawyer told Anatolia that Haberal's condition was worse on Thursday morning. Haberal was then sent to Silivri State Hospital after she requested that the Public Prosecutor's Office allow him to be hospitalized. Helvacı stated that the weather and prison conditions had a negative effect on Haberal's condition.
