Erdilek, a professor emeritus of economics at Case Western Reserve University, had suffered from advanced-stage cancer for the past four months and lost his battle with the disease on Sunday in the state of Ohio, where he was living.
Erdilek had been writing for Today's Zaman for five years on the global and Turkish economies.
“He was undoubtedly one of the best Turkish economists living abroad,” Şahin Alpay, another Today's Zaman columnist and a close friend of Erdilek said, expressing deep sadness over Erdilek's death.
