Turkish film director Özcan Alper’s upcoming third feature has been deemed worthy of funding for screenplay and project development from the Netherlands’ Hubert Bals Fund, the Ankara Cinema Association (ASD) announced in a written statement this week.
Alper, whose debut directorial effort was the critically acclaimed “Sonbahar” (Autumn), will focus on the themes of love and death in his new film, set in a border region and called “Rüzgarın Hatıraları” (Memories of the Wind), the ASD’s statement read.
With a screenplay co-written with Ahmet Büke, the drama was among the 11 upcoming feature film projects from all over the world that were selected this year by the Hubert Bals Fund, an initiative of the International Film Festival Rotterdam that provides grants to remarkable cinema projects in various stages of completion.
“Rüzgarın Hatıraları” will be a Turkish-German-French-Georgian co-production. Filming on the movie is expected to get under way in the summer of 2013.
A total of 399 projects from around the world applied this year to Hubert Bals Fund for support.
