Turkey continues to strike targets in Syria

4 October 2012 / TODAYSZAMAN.COM
Turkey's military continued to launch artillery strikes early on Thursday targeting the Tel Abyad district of Syria near the Turkish-Syrian border, Turkish security sources said.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that Syrian soldiers were killed in a military post in Tel Abyad in Turkey's retaliatory military action, but didn't give information on the number of deaths.

A mortar bomb fired from Syria landed in a residential district of the southeastern Turkish town of Akçakale on Wednesday, killing a woman and four children from the same family and wounding at least 13 other people.

A cloud of dust and smoke rose up over low-rise buildings as Akçakale residents ran to help the wounded. Others, infuriated by the increasing spillover of violence from Syria's civil war, took to the streets shouting protests against the local authorities.

The shelling appeared to come from forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime, which is fighting rebels backed by Turkey in an escalating civil war.

Comparing Israeli military actions with Turkey's reprisal is just ignorance. Turkey has targeted and destroyed military objectives in Syria not civilian, like Israel does all the time! It is interesting to notice that each time Turkey makes a move in the region, certain people accuse Turkey of being...

When Hamas shells Israeli civiliant targets, shud we strike back immediately like Turkey, or we shud wait until at least 5 of our civilians are killed and then listen to hipocritical protests of Erdogan and Davitoglu?

turkum, how would Turkiye be "bogged down in war with Syria"? The Alawites make up 12 % of the population. Even if the entire country was Alawites, Turkiye would wipe the floor with it.
