Erhan Yakut from the western province of Bursa was injured in the attack against the Geçimli military outpost in the town of Şemdinli in the southern province of Hakkari on Sunday. Six soldiers and two village guards were killed in the clashes, while 15 soldiers were injured. Yakut received medical treatment at a military hospital before his superiors gave him 20 days' leave from the service.
Yakut's father talked to TV stations and media outlets yesterday and strongly criticized the military officers for sending his son home by bus without any protection or assistance. Yakut went on his own to Bursa's İngeöl district from Ankara on Tuesday.
The statement released by Gendarme General Command on Thursday said the injured soldier was taken from the outpost by helicopter to the Hakkari Military Hospital, then transferred to Ankara via air ambulance. He was not in critical condition and was given 20 days' leave for a full recovery. The statement noted that an officer accompanied him to the bus terminal where he left for his hometown. The military also said in the statement that money was given to the soldier for his journey.
