A cache of weapons, ammunition, bombs and an anti-aircraft weapon were found on Friday buried in Kocaeli’s Gebze district during a search by gendarmes.
The search was based on information coming from children who were collecting pieces of paper from garbage in the area. The children told the gendarmerie that they found the barrel of a gun buried near a private factory in Gebze. The Gebze Provincial Gendarmerie Command launched an operation to find out what else was buried in the area. According to the initial official list, gendarmes unearthed a large number of Kalashnikov rifles, bullets, hand grenades and an anti-aircraft weapon. The materials found have yet to be examined thoroughly at a police crime lab.
