Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Tuesday that the “real sons of Syria” will respond to the armed assaults of the Syrian regime, adding that Damascus and Aleppo will be rebuilt upon justice and courage.

Addressing the nation, Erdoğan stated that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime's brutal violence against its own people was evidence of the regime's panic and desperation.

“Assad and his bloody-minded allies have understood well that their inevitable end has come. They know that their end would not be different from the precedent dictators,” said Erdoğan.

Erdoğan added that those who took the side of the Syrian regime, while the regime was carrying out its bloody massacres, have lost their credibility in front of their nation.

Responding to the criticisms made regarding Turkey's Syrian policy, Erdoğan stated that Turkey was a big country, and added that the circles, which were unhappy with Turkey's strength, are trying to turn Turkey into a target. “These circles are trying to draw our attention from regional issues to other issues, and their aim is to turn Turkey into a target,” said Erdoğan.

“After attacking Syrian provinces, including Hama, Homs and Deraa, Syrian forces are currently attacking Aleppo heavily. The habitants of Aleppo are exposed to the greatest attack in history,” said Erdoğan.

The revolt against Assad has developed from an insurgency into a battle for control of the two main cities, Aleppo and Damascus, where fighting exploded last week. Assad's forces have launched big counter-assaults in both cities.

Damascus and Aleppo came under shell fire from government forces battling a growing insurgency against Assad last Thursday, opposition activists in the area said.

Erdoğan stated that Turkey would never show tolerance at any attempt that would create a threat to the country's security. “While Assad's massacres relentlessly continue in the north of Syria, Turkey will not close its eyes as though it is a fait accompli, which some groups have attempted to do,” said Erdoğan.

Erdoğan underlined that every development, crisis, issue in the Middle East is directly related to Turkey and its economy, adding instability in the region directly or indirectly affects Turkey's stability, prosperity, trade and investments.
