The Hürriyet daily featured an interview with US Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Assistant Secretary Philip H. Gordon. Gordon was quoted as saying, “As long as al-Assad's regime remains in Syria, there will be no stability.” He also stated that the US does not approve of the existence of a self-governing Kurdish territory in Syria. According to the daily, Gordon added that the US would like to see a united Syria.
Another story that most Turkish dailies covered on Tuesday was Turkish Foreign Minister Davutoğlu's statement on Syrian territory in the north of Syria reported to currently be in Kurdish hands. The Zaman daily quoted Foreign Minister Davutoğlu as saying there is no Syrian territory under Kurdish rule and that they will not let any terror-related elements cross the Turkish border.
The Türkiye daily reported on a phone call between US President Obama and Turkish Prime Minister Erdoğan. The daily said both leaders agreed that their countries should work closely to help support the democratic transitional process in Syria.
