US Ambassador to Turkey Francis Ricciardone, Principal Officer at the US Consulate General in İstanbul Scott Kilner and Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs at the US State Department Philip H. Gordon distributed meals to locals at an iftar, or fast-breaking dinner, hosted by the Üsküdar Municipality on Monday.

Üsküdar Mayor Mustafa Kara and Üsküdar District Governor Süleyman Erdoğan welcomed Gordon, Ricciardone and Kilner and their spouses as they arrived for the fast-breaking meal. Speaking at the iftar event, Gordon thanked the residents of Üsküdar for giving them a chance to join in their fast-breaking meal.

“I have stayed in Turkey numerous times. However, I did not have a chance to join in this wonderful dimension of your culture in the past. I am grateful to you all,” Gordon stated.

Mayor Kara said Üsküdar was a special place with its own history and culture. “This is where the tradition of foundations first began,” Kara said.

Gordon, Ricciardone, Kilner and Kara distributed iftar meals to Üsküdar residents during the dinner.
